Making Total Place work

Total Place will not fulfil its potential unless radical changes are made to how public services are delivered, senior local government figures have warned.
The Local Government Association said "millions of pounds" could be saved if funding was distributed through a single pot according to geographical area, rather than Whitehall departments, to give local service providers extra freedom and flexibility.
Dame Margaret Eaton (Con), LGA chairman, said: "The findings from Total Place back up councils’ calls for less central government control.
"Local areas must have the freedom to design services that better meet the needs of people who live there. Despite being the most efficient part of the public sector, councils control just five per cent of spending on local services."
